I have 8351A. Should I upgrade to 8351B?
browse
Both 8351A and 8351B are highly capable monitoring systems, and 8351A remains an excellent loudspeaker. However, 8351B includes several technical improvements that may be relevant depending on your application and working environment.
Key improvements in 8351B include:
- Higher maximum SPL
- Improved linearity
- Improved linearity results in lower distortion, especially at higher playback levels, and cleaner sound reproduction.
More powerful room calibration and adjustment capability
8351B has a higher number of internal filters available. This allows:- More effective room compensation using GLM AutoCal, and
- Additional filters available for optional manual fine‑tuning after calibration, for users who want to further tailor the system to their preferences.
With 8351A, room calibration may already use many of the available filters, leaving limited flexibility for additional adjustments.
Should you upgrade?
If you work at higher listening levels, need maximum accuracy and extremely low distortion, or rely heavily on GLM room calibration and manual fine‑tuning, upgrading to 8351B can provide clear benefits. If these aspects are critical in your workflow, 8351B is worth considering.
