Can I use standard CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6 Ethernet cable with SAM products?

Yes you can. The GLM network uses standard Ethernet cables to connect together all the loudspeakers and subwoofers on the network. The data rate used in the GLM Control network is low by Ethernet standards and is therefore an easy signal to transmit reliably. Thing to remember is that GLM network is not Ethernet compliant, and for that reason the control network can not be connected to a network switch or router.

The InLine® Crossover PC to PC Patch Cable F/UTP Cat.5e (72501L) did not work with the SAM product family in my case. I used these cables as the last two cables in the PC -> GLM -> Genelec 8341A -> Genelec 8341A -> Genelec 8350A -> Genelec 7360A -> Genelec 8350A -> Genelec 8330A -> Genelec 8330A chain. The problem was that GLM couldn't detect the second-to-last speaker, which was an 8330A. The problem was resolved when I replaced the cables with an InLine® Patch Cable F/UTP Cat.5e (72502L) and some old RJ45 cable. So perhaps the issue was related to the crossover cable in general?
