Can I use my monitors in every country with different voltages in example 120V or 230V?

With Genelec long history of manufacturing active monitors, there has been some variatiation within different models. Most of our current products manufactured can be used in all countries with voltages between 100-240V, but there is some exceptions and we guide you to always check suitability for different voltages from the product itself. The information is always located on the rear panel of the monitor.

If you wish to use a monitor in a country for which it was not originally intended, we recommend the use of an external 'step-up' or 'step-down' transformer in order to supply the correct original voltage to the monitor.

What about step-up or step-down converters?

  • We recommend that converter output should be at least ~3 times the power of the speaker connected to it, in example with 8030B (Picture 2) meaning at least 240W per each 8030B speaker. With pair of 8030B it should be in minimum of 480W.
  • Converter should be sinewave step-up converter or sinewave step-down converter

Which one I need, step-up or step-down converter?

  • If your monitor has rating 120V on the back sticker, and you wish to use the monitor in 230V region, you would need to lower the 230V to 120V. Therefore you would need a step-down converter.
  • If your monitor has rating 230V on the back sticker, and you wish to use the monitor in 100V or 120V region, you would need step-up converter.
