How do I connect speakers to the TV?
browse
As our speakers are active, you can connect them directly to the TV without having to connect an amplifier in between. The easiest way is to use the TV's 3.5 mm headphone output. This way, you only need a Y stereo cable with a 3.5 mm jack plug at the other end. The connections on the other end of the cable depend on your speaker model. All G-Series have RCA inputs and G Three, G Four & G Five also have XLR inputs. The 8000 and 8300 series only have XLR inputs. Usually, the output level of headphone outputs of TVs can be controlled using the TV remote. Check the settings of your device.
However, most modern televisions do not have a headphone output. They normally have optical or coaxial digital outputs and HDMI outputs. To use these outputs, you need a converter, streamer or preamplifier that supports these outputs. The speakers are then connected to the analogue outputs of these devices.
Our current F Series subwoofers, F One B and F Two B, have digital inputs (optical and coaxial) that can be connected directly to the digital output of your TV. Please note that this option only supports stereo playback (set the TV audio mode to PCM stereo). The playback volume can be controlled using our subwoofer. Multichannel sound cannot be decoded. You therefore need an AVR that supports the desired multi-channel format, e.g. 5.1 or Dolby Atmos 7.1.4. HDMI is then used for these formats and your speakers/subwoofers are connected to the line level outputs of the AVR.
If you have speakers with digital inputs, e.g. models from our SAM series, you can use the digital SPDIF output to forward the signal directly to the speakers in a stereo setup. To do this, you will need a converter for optical outputs to AES/EBU digital audio. For coaxial outputs, an impedance converter from 75 Ohm to 110 Ohm is highly recommended. You'll need to use AES/EBU digital XLR to connect to the Digital AES/EBU input on the SAM speakers. In GLM or using the DIP switches on the back, you'll select the 'A' subframe for your left speaker and the 'B' subframe for the right speaker.
Please note that the TV set outputs the signal at full volume, and you cannot control it with the TV remote control. The volume should be adjusted with our GLM software or with one of our volume controls in combination with our GLM network interface, which can also be used in standalone mode with a USB power supply.
