Safety Risk: Genelec 8030A and 1029A Monitors
browse
Identified Safety Risk
All Genelec monitors are always individually tested for electrical safety before leaving the factory.
Genelec has become aware of a small number of cases involving discontinued monitor models 8030A and 1029A where the mains power switch, located on the front of the enclosure, has become mechanically compromised, loose, or detached from the monitor enclosure.
The mains power switch must remain securely attached to the enclosure and must not become loose. In some older units, prolonged use over many years or mechanical impacts may contribute to deterioration of the switch material, leading to material failure and causing the mains power switch to become mechanically compromised or detached.
Safety Information
Any 8030A or 1029A monitor exhibiting a mechanically compromised, loose, detached, or displaced mains power switch must be considered unsafe. Use of the monitor must be discontinued immediately until the unit has been inspected and repaired as necessary.
Required Service Actions
When a monitor is received with a mechanically compromised, loose, detached, or partially detached mains power switch, the following actions must be taken:
- Replace the switch with a new part. Use spare part 8030A-721A for 8030A and 1029-721B for 1029A.
- Please note that new switch feature an updated design and may appear slightly different from the original switch. Customers may wish to replace the switches on all monitors within a system to maintain a consistent appearance.
- Perform all applicable electrical safety tests and any other required functional tests before returning the unit to customer.
Additional Information
Genelec has determined that this condition is not considered a manufacturing defect. The affected monitors are typically older units that have exceeded the warranty period and have been in use for many years. This condition is considered to be associated with normal ageing of the switch assembly materials over an extended period of use. Other factors, such as mechanical stress or impact, may also contribute to switch failure.
