I have connected SAM speakers to TV with optical output and there is also optical to coaxial transformation with appropriate coaxial to xlr cable to enable direct connection to the speakers. Everything works just fine for stereo PCM signals, but few HD channels are transmitting dts/ac3 signal through the spdif output, but the speakers naturally don't understand that signal and just emit quite annoying and repetitive digital noise.
The workaround is to have a separate dts/ac3 -> analog conversion and then another analog -> digital conversion for the L/R, but it's a bit clumsy and I'm wondering that it would be great if the speakers would understand the dts/ac3 signal (they are patent free nowadays) and based on the speaker config, they would extract the correct channel and in case of just L/R speakers the center would be mixed to both correspondingly.

Hello, Tommi!
Sorry for delay. Currently, there is no built-in support in Genelec SAM speakers for decoding DTS or AC3 signals, and there are no plans or updates available to add this feature in near future. The speakers are intended to be used with sources that output PCM stereo or multichannel audio already decoded.
There are some AV receivers or dedicated audio converters can decode these formats and output PCM over AES/EBU, which can then be fed to your Genelec system. But usually these devices can get a bit pricey and are not very common.
However we will forward your valuable feedback and feature request to our R&D team for further evaluation. Thanks!
