Wishlist: A GLM hardware device for saving and switching between presets (without having a computer connected)

I have a system of The Ones for listening at my home (2x 8361, 2x W371, 1x 7380). It sounds incredible and balanced! (I'm the person in https://www.genelec.com/-/reference/genelec-active-loudspeakers-help-dedicated-music-aficionado-david-yanacek-create-the-listening-room-of-his-dreams ) However, sometimes I want to go overkill on the bass when I'm listening to EDM or other sub-heavy music, to make more of a "club sound" balance vs a "proper" mix. Why? Because it's fun and I love a little overkill bass sometimes. Unfortunately this is very tedious for a living room setup standpoint. A friend of mine just bought 2x 8361 and 1x 7380 and plans to expand the system as he redoes his basement, and he gave the same feedback on his wishlist. Sometimes it's fun to have too much bass, but in a living room environment it is not usable or practical to have a computer hooked up to in 24/7, or to wheel out my laptop every time I want to have fun with it.

I was excited to see the GLM remote (9101A) and the controller (9320A), but was disappointed to read in the manuals that the "zone switch" buttons only work when the GLM device is connected to a computer. I wish instead I could "save" some GLM presets to those devices, so that in a living room setting I wouldn't need a computer. I've thought about getting a small PC like a NUC or something, but then I'm sure that would have some annoying downsides like needing to constantly patch and troubleshoot.

If it makes a difference, I don't necessarily need to do the full zone switch - the adjustment I tend to make is adding another +6db to the subwoofer, since the 7380 supports boosting above 0db.

Anyway just wanted to give some product feedback, especially since I'm not alone with this hope. Thanks! -David

Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback, David! We are well aware of the need to have the ability to change presets in standalone mode - especially outside of studio environments. We will discuss this further with our R&D team soon. All the best!

I've managed to make the GLM unit work via Wifi trough a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W.

This is really convenient since i use the Genelec setup in my living room. Can adjust whatever in GLM without actually connecting my laptop to the GLM adapter.

I manly use this for switching between profiles.

I would be very interested in this too. Any news on the scedule/result of the discussion ? My use case is quite ordinary:
    - I have 7.4.1 home theater.
    - I'm using my Amp calibration for the 7.4.1 tuning as my system is not 100% Genelec.
    - 7.4.1 calibration is done with the speakers in factory settings so as not to have two systems conflicting with one another
    - for Stereo listening I calibrated the system with GLM.
Now when ever I need to switch to stereo I need to use GLM to use stored settings and when watching a movie I would need to go back to factory settings. Using the dip switches is not very practical particularly as my front speakers are attached to the wall with brackets and hence access to dips is not easy and more over you end up turning the speakers and need to re-align them everytime.
Hence either put an accessible switch / button to change the mode or make SW that allows you to connect GLM network to your home network and an app to switch between stored and factory setting would be an ideal solution.

Thanks a lot for both wonderfull speakers and GLM system

ar would be interested to know more of your setup ?

Is your system based on this https://www.virtualhere.com/usb_server_software

    or something else ?

    Thanks in advance !

Correct. Running a Rasberry pi with whatever distro works and then installing virtualhere works perfect.

I did originally run virtualhere on a rpie 3. Switched to a Pi Zero 2 Wireless because of the smaller footprint.

With the virtualhere windows client i can connect to the GLM unit wirelessly. The GLM software works perfectly even tho my laptop isn't connected to the GLM uit directly.

For my livingroom setup this makes it much more conveniet since i never have to connect any cables to my laptop.

Great to see your workaround solution here! Officially, unfortunately we still don't have any new features for switching groups in stand alone mode available. Greetings!

arThanks for a very quick response :-)

Now this combo with GLM on my phone would be a killer.
Just switch the stored mode / factory mode with a phone
Even a stripped down version of GLM that could just toggle the speakers in either factory or stored mode would suffice for many I would think.
